Taekwondo is famous for its kicking techniques however you will never kick high or perform multiple kicks if you have any tension in the top half of your body. 

Make sure you breathe out whenever you kick and release all upper body tension. Try and stay as relaxed as possible when kicking. The more relaxed you are the higher and faster you will kick.
