Changing from back stance to forward stance in Taekwondo

Changing from back stance to forward stance

Changing from one stance to another the key to generating power is the twist in the hips. The faster you can transfer your body weight the more power you will achieve.

Exercise: Take a back stance (making sure your heels are in straight line, your weight is distributed correctly 70% over the back leg and 30% over the front leg)
To convert technically to a forward stance move your front foot forward one step and also diagonally across your body so that your stance is shoulder width apart.
The key to this stance change is your back foot and hip. In a back stance your back foot should be 90 degrees, when transfering your weight to a forward stance your back foot and hip should turn 45 degrees and back leg should lock straight.
This exercise is crucial to generating power when the time comes to add in your upper body movements.
